The Devil's claw or Arpagofito plant is a herbaceous perennial and climbing high from 7 to 20 cm, with branches to the ground procombenti originates savannas of South Africa where it prefers sandy soils. The flowers produce red fruits lignified flattened and provided with appendages shaped hooks facing inward. It's for centuries used in rheumatic diseases.

The claw of the devil was very active especially in situations that cause pain and inflammation such as tendonitis, osteoatrite, rheumatoid arthritis, back pain and neck pain. In this plant are also attributed digestive properties (when used as an infusion), and cholesterol lowering ipouricemizzanti (it is useful in cases of gout). The scientific explanation of these live in many bitter principles, capable of stimulating the production of gastric juices and bile.
